The ENSG endorses the Smart Grid Vision as a description of the way in which Smart Grids could contribute to the delivery of the Governments carbon targets and the delivery of benefits to end-customers. The ENSG strongly recommends that thinking on the Smart Grid Vision should be aligned and made consistent with thinking which is supporting other parallel policy development. The ENSG recognises that significant uncertainty surrounds the assessment of the costs and benefits of Smart Grids, however, since it is likely that Smart Grids will yield net benefits to society under some scenarios, the ENSG considers that appropriate further work on Smart Grid technology should be taken forward.
