Abstract

The boreal mixedwood forest is redifined as a successional mosaic of stratified mixed stands of disturbance origin. The effect of long-term exclusion of fire is discussed. A plea is made for a 'let-burn' policy in parks and improved silviculture for maintaining the productivity of the boreal mixedwood forest.
