Having a blast: exploring the pathogenicity of Magnaporthe grisea

Abstract

The rice blast fungus Magnaporthe grisea has an exquisite level of pathogenic specialization, allowing it to infect and colonize rice, subvert the metabolism of the host and spread to new hosts. Through a combination of cytology and moleculargenetic analysis, a picture is gradually emerging of the many interlinked processes that are required for successful infection of the plant. © 1995.
