Abstract

The development of a few worldwide routinely used Pt(II) coordination compounds is described from a mechanistic point of view and related to the molecular aspects of Pt-DNA binding. Mechanistic knowledge developed from these studies is applied nowadays for the design and synthesis of new bifunctional and trifunctional compounds, aimed for use as improved anticancer drugs.©2011 IUPAC.
