Several experimental studies have noted heightened cooperation with a request for those who initially are given a smaller request. The technique, labeled the foot-in-the-door procedure, is applied to a telephone survey design which asks two questions of sample households in a call prior to the contact requesting the full interview. © 1981 by The Trustees of Columbia University.
