Abstract

Resources management of giant featherback (Chitala lapis) in Kampar River, Riau Province. By: Arif Wibowo, Ridwan Affandi~ Kadarwan Soewardi~ and Sudarto Giant featherback is an indonesian native fish species that has economic and cultural value. Unfortunately, unfriendly human activities, and changing of water quality threaten this species. These impacts are cleary see on reduction of giant featherback annual production, both at national level and Kampar River. Riau Province. Kampar River become the main interest of management because of three reasons, which are Kampar River represent a complex and complete ecosystem, Kampar River's giant featherback has extensive variation on morphology and spesific, and the annual production of Kampar River's giant featherback is relatively high and drastically decline. Conservation and management efforts on Kampar River's giant feafherback resources are urgent and important for its resources susfainablity. The benefits are not only maintain Kampar River's giant featherback resources but also optimalize its economic benefits. KEYW
