Seventeen percent of the American Indian population smoke in the Southwest. This clinic treats adults who are interested in quitting smoking or chewing tobacco through proper education on detrimental health effects, individualized counseling, and the provision of appropriate treatment options. Methods: Retrospective chart reviews will be completed for 75 tobacco cessation clinic patients over the past 6 months. Patients will be reviewed for medication adherence to nicotine replacement therapy including nicotine patches and nicotine gum. Cessation and appointment adherence also will be evaluated through chart review. Exclusion criteria include hospitalized patients who received nicotine replacement therapy and pediatric patients. Results: Initial chart reviews show a trend in appointment nonadherence. Several patients have quit using tobacco through the help of this tobacco cessation clinic. However, additional chart reviews will need to be completed to analyze all 75 patients currently in the clinic.
