Abstract

The zoeal and megalopal morphology of Maja squinado is described from laboratory-reared material, and compared with the larval stages of other spider crabs belonging to the subfamily Majinae. Characters which may facilitate separation of the zoeas and megalopas of these species are listed. Differences between Notomithrax and Eurynome aspera larvae are tabulated. The importance of detailed descriptions and illustrations of larvae based on meticulous observation is emphasized. © 1986 Taylor & Francis Group, LLC.
