On the basis of several surveys about urban leisure activities (patrimony, sports, festivals), we analyse them in the light of Public Space. We confronted four major theories about these fields - among which the one of Social Transaction as heuristic notion - to understand how they allow us to cast a pertinent look at the social object. Eventually, the Social Transaction is called up as a paradigmatic tool to imagine a definition of Public Space which would be syncretic, evolutionary and adapted to the here and now of the sociological research. © De Boeck Université.
