SHOULD LYME DISEASE AFFECTING THE NERVOUS SYSTEM BE TREATED WITH ORAL OR INTRAVENOUS ANTIBIOTICS?

Abstract

Table 1 lists six papers which examined the effectiveness of an oral antibiotic (doxycycline) for the treatment of Lyme neuroborreliosis. Only one of the papers found related specifically to children. However, no data could be found in the literature to suggest any differing responses to doxycycline between adults and chil- dren. Although two randomised control trials were found, they were both of poor quality as they included patients in the analysis who were re-treated with intrave- nous antibiotics for relapses.
