In January and February 2009, the Ministry of Health (MOH), with technical assistance from the USAID | DELIVER PROJECT, Task Order 1, conducted an assessment of laboratory services and the management of the supply chain for laboratory commodities and equipment in government and CHAM health facilities in Malawi. The assessment’s overall objective was to provide the MOH with information on the current status of laboratory services and the supporting supply chain to inform the development of the Five-Year Strategic Laboratory Plan. A quantitative baseline was also established during the assessment on which to measure future improvements to laboratory services and the supporting supply chain. This report presents the methodology and findings of the assessment as well as recommendations to improve the supply chain to support laboratory services in Malawi.
