Migration of turbot (Psetta maxima L.) in the northern Baltic proper

Abstract

To study the migration of northern Baltic turbot (Psetta maxima L.), a grand total of 401 specimens were tagged between 1969 and 1973. Seventy-two fish were recaptured. Recapture rates varied between 12 and 27% for the different years of tagging. The average distance between the point of first capture and that of recapture was short, ∼ 6 km. Ninety percent of recaptured turbot were caught ≤ 20 km from the point of first capture, 79% ≤ 10 km. The mean time elapsed between tagging and recapture was 22 months, the maximum 12 years. The species is considered to be very stationary. © 1990.
