Recent analytical and conceptual developments in multivariate statistics and morphometrics are reviewed. These developments include a modification of principal components analysis, the shear, and the truss networks, a geometric protocol for the generation of variables for statistical analyses. The implications of these techniques for studies of organismal evolution are discussed
