The importance of supplementing the branch-at-a-time algorithms for the development of power system bus matrices for bus-oriented cases is shown by examples of practical situations. The usual algorithms consist of one for a branch and another for a link. If coupled branches are present, the branch-and-link algorithms become very complicated. But by defining only the branch algorithm, the bus-fusion algorithm can be used for 'closing' the link. A method in which only the branch algorithm is defined and a bus-fusion algorithm is used to 'close' the link is proposed. A bus-fusion algorithm is developed for both impedance and admittance matrices.
