It is with great sadness that the editors of Clinical linguistics and phonetics report the passing of our friend and colleague, Adele Miccio. Her work is well known to many readers of this journal. She was reviews editor from 2000–2005 and served as a member of the editorial board thereafter. She was a productive scholar, who made important contributions to several areas within clinical linguistics and phonetics: speech sound disorders in children, effects of otitis media on speech sound development, and bilingualism. Her interests in treatment efficacy and clinical linguistics and phonetics led Adele to work closely with speech-language pathologists to encourage the integration of research findings into clinical practice. To this end, she developed a set of clinical materials based on her work in the area of stimulability and paediatric speech sound disorders. Adele loved to travel, and she presented her research regularly at scientific meetings around the world, including those organized by the International Clinical Phonetics and Linguistics Association (ICPLA). This special issue of Clinical linguistics and phonetics features the work of many of Adele’s friends and colleagues. We will miss Adele’s scientific contributions, but most of all we will miss her ever-present smile and her friendly demeanour at ICPLA meetings, as well as other symposia. We mourn her passing, but we celebrate her life and contributions. (PsycINFO Database Record (c) 2016 APA, all rights reserved)
