Abstract

An updated synopsis of a classification of the Angiospermae is presented with a drawing that represents visually one interpretation of the relationships of the major taxa at this point in geological time. Also presented are a philosophy of classification, a discussion of the possible origins of the flowering plants, their more primitive characteristics and some trends of specialization, and some explanation of those realignments of orders and families that deviate most radically from other systems now widely accepted.
