Abstract

The effects of the kinetics of reactions of the type solid —» solid + gas on the corresponding differential thermal analysis pattern are explored. Curves of reaction rate vs. temperature for constant heating rates constructed by analytical methods are used to demonstrate the effect of varying order of reaction. The information so obtained is used to analyze the differential thermal patterns of magnesite, calcite, brucite, kaolinite, and halloysite. The results of the differential thermal study agree with results obtained isothermally except in some specific cases. © 1957, American Chemical Society. All rights reserved.
