Septoria unedonis var. vellanensis - a causal agent of leaf spots on strawberry-tree.

Abstract

S. unedonis var. vellanensis is reported as the causal agent of leafspots on the strawberry tree (Arbutus unedo) in Calabria and Sicily,Italy. The fungus produced spots on both leaf blades. The var. vellanensisof S. unedonis was identified on the basis of long pluriseptate asexualspores (as much as 80 µ long). The disease was reproduced by inoculatinga conidial suspension of the pathogen onto the leaves of young strawberrytree plants. Control measures are suggested.
