Abstract

201Until recent years psychological theories depicted behavior as impelled by inner forces in the form of drives and impulses. Different theories proposed diverse sets of motivators, some containing a few all-purpose motives, others embracing a varied assortment of specific drives. Since the principal causes of behavior resided in the individual, that is where one looked for the explanations of man’s actions. It is therefore not surprising that aggression has traditionally been explained by recourse to drive forces.
