Abstract

A survey examined sports and recreation for children and adolescents with physical disabilities. Participants were over 85 parents of children with disabilities who partake in sports. The results revealed that over 50 percent of the respondents cited physical fitness as one of the most important benefits of sports participation for their child and that self-esteem and building friendships and peer relationships were ranked close behind. However, the respondents noted that there are not enough disability-specific opportunities for their child.
