Abstract

Cross section and vector analyzing power have been measured for the (d, p) reaction on 18O leading to neutron bound and unbound states in 19O at an incident deuteron energy of 14.8 MeV. The bound state data are compared to DWBA predictions. The data for the unbound states have been analyzed in the framework of the DWBA using (i) a form factor for a weakly bound neutron and (ii) a resonance form factor, following the approach of Vincent and Fortune. The spin-parity assignments and spectroscopic factors or widths for most of the observed states with excitation energy up to 6.28 MeV have been extracted. The spectroscopic factors are in fair agreement with those obtained from recent shell model calculations. Wherever comparison is meaningful, the extracted widths agree reasonably well with the values obtained from neutron scattering experiments. The primary constituent of the broad maximum which appears in the proton spectrum at ≈ 5.5 MeV excitation is found to be a d3 2 state. The presence or absence of more than one group in this energy region cannot be concluded from the present data. © 1974.
