Abstract

Development of remote laboratories is a complex task. It usually requires knowledge from various disciplines like computer science, electrical, mechanical and other engineering disciplines depending of the nature of the experiments for which the remote laboratory is designed. Many remote laboratories have client server architecture and use LabVIEW software to support remote access to experimental workbench. In this article we discuss the suitability of using SCADA (Supervisory Control And Data Acquisition) software for the development of remote laboratories with an extra benefit of making students work ready for industrial environments where SCADA is commonly used in automation of manufacturing and scientific processes. © 2013 IEEE.
