Abstract

Reaction of Cp2TaH3 (Cp = .eta.5-cyclopentadienyl) with MenSnCl4-n (n = 0-2) in C6H6 gave heterometallic complexes Cp2TaH2SnMenCl3-n (I; n = 0-2). I (n = 2) can be obtained only when the HCl evolved is fixed with Et3N. The Moessbauer, IR, and 1H NMR spectra of I show a sym. structure with 2 terminal Ta-H bonds and a central Ta-Sn .sigma.-bond. X-ray crystallog. of I (n = 1) shows a plane of symmetry passing through the centers of the Cp rings and the Ta, Sn, and Me-group C atoms. Based on spectroscopic and structural data, the Ta-Sn bond has increased s character. [on SciFinder (R)]
