Translation and the French Language

Abstract

Lexical contributions of translators to the French language are examined. The introduction of new words from the fourteenth century onward that are attributed to translators' work demonstrates that the translator's role is decisive in terminological growth. The politics of translation & of terminology are briefly discussed. Twentieth-century Anglo-Americanisms & their influence on French are also noted. P. Lore
