Abstract

The concept of personal learning environment has been described from various perspectives. This paper examines a selection of twenty academic articles from different time and perspectives – the personal perspective, the learning perspective, and the environment perspective. The author analyzes and synthesizes the various understandings to form a more thorough description of the components within the concept of personal learning environment (PLE). The result of the examination shows that the community has come to agree on a set of elements with some varieties, and that there are some important elements to be further explored.
