In his book, Jorge Gracia does not admit the polemical substance in the discussion about textuality. He proposes a functional taxonomy of textual genres as the base of his theory, but it becomes difficult to verify it. He uses exclusively the "proper" idea of meaning, and that leads him to exclude from textual meaning the understanding caused by some interpretations (i.e., psychoanalytical). He speaks about the "hermeneutical circle" and proposes human behavior as a way to "get out" of it. He doesn't admit possible heterogeneities in textual meaning. He must refer to an essential human nature and tradition, in order to guarantee a correct textual understanding, but he does not argue adequately these instances.
