Abstract

Describes the literary and archaeological evidence for the production of brass in the Islamic world. Publishes the analyses of several hundred brasses and shows the various classes of alloy used, high zinc brass for sheet metalwork, leaded brass for castings, etc. Comparison with contemporary Islamic, Spanish, and other European brass is indicative of technical differences in the process.
