Abstract

The article discusses the effects of a financial and credit crisis in the United States in 2008 on higher education. The author examines past recessions in the country to reveal how higher education has fared during economic downturns and recovered once they were over. Previous recessions have shown that student demand remains strong regardless of the country's economic position, but this recession may be different since it will be difficult to secure student loans. The author believes that most colleges will absorb the changes and survive.
