Abstract

Global changes in antibiotic production and use patterns, in synergy with climate change, suggest that antibiotic resistance will only increase. When combined with the crisis in new drug development, antibiotic stewardship becomes ever more important in order to preserve the activity of these unique drugs. © 2010 Elsevier B.V. and the International Society of Chemotherapy.
