Abstract

Abstract This entry begins by presenting a general history of wound dressing techniques, discussing methods from the Middle Ages all the way up to the 20th century. The goal of the entry is to provide information about safe practices in wound dressing and what types of dressings are most desirable based on the type of wound being treated through presenting a list of various criteria to which bandaging practices must adhere in order to maximize the healing potential and minimize the chance for infection.
