Abstract

The patient was identified and the site of surgery confirmed. Under general anesthesia and IV antibiotics, and with the patient in the prone or supine position dependent upon surgeon's preferred technique; Supine: hand placed into gauntlet or suspension unit in neutral position, 90° of abduction, and 90° of elbow flexion. Prone: elevate the proximal arm and shoulder on a sandbag, shoulder 90° of abduction and 90° of elbow flexion. The operative arm was prepped and draped in the usual sterile fashion.
