Abstract

This report is the outcome of the workshop on the "Global commercial pipeline of new GM crops" organised by the Institute for Prospective Technological Studies (IPTS), one of the seven institutes of the Joint Research Centre (JRC) of the European Commission, on 12-13 November 2008. The workshop gathered international experts and practitioners involved in the development, regulation and commercialisation of GM crops worldwide. The main objective of the workshop was to compile a global pipeline of new GM crops that are to be commercialised in the short to medium term by private and public technology providers. Against this back- ground, a discussion of the experts in the cultivation, trade and processing of the main GM crops took place, in particular pointing to the implications of "asynchronous approval" of these crops for international trade.
