Abstract

Engaging patients with self-help medical environments is a big challenge. Intelligent and embodied conversational agents (ECA) are showing success in this type of medical and healthcare application. This project aims to develop an engaging interactive and intelligent environment for diabetes patients, assist in positive lifestyle modification in management of their diabetes and increase their adherence to medication. The project introduces an ECA with the capability of integration with other health related applications. We also discuss a key research question: whether different dialogue styles and other aspects of the interaction design, informed by theories of motivation, can lead to different outcomes. Author
