Gabriel marcel's philosophy contains in itself the nucleus of platonism. The distinction between knowledge and opinion, the problem of soul and its immortality, man's orientation towards values, the concept of community, accessibility of "paideia," affinity between philosophy and music are the characteristics which the theory of plato and that of marcel have in common. Despite their differences in the determination of participation and the possibility of knowledge, both thinkers are connected with a "selective affinity." g marcel's platonism is not a mere imitation or repetition but a living spiritual experience within the platonic atmosphere, since participation in being constitutes his main philosophical occupation.
