Abstract

Leadership as presence is different than leadership as position. In positional leadership, one fulfills a role; in leadership as presence, one is who one is, and that is the pull and attraction. Some people convey this sense of presence more dynamically than others. When we meet someone with presence, we immediately know and experience something; there is an emotional and spiritual connection. We may not be able to articulate what this connection is, but we know it exists. It is an inner knowing, an unshakeable knowing; as Carl Jung would have said, "It 'sjust so! ".
