Abstract

Under construction at the Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport (H-JAIA), the busiest passenger airport in the world (90,039,280 passengers sewed in 2008), is the Maynard H. Jackson Jr International Terminal. Named after the first African American mayor of Atlanta, the facility will serve international passengers with their own terminal, eliminating the need for them to access the remainder of the airport, unless they are connecting with domestic flights or renting a car. The International Terminal will include customs and security spaces, new access roadways, parking deck, airside concrete paving of ramps and taxi-way extensions, extension of the APM (automated people mover) from Concourse E, walkway connector (tunnel) to Concourse E, and Concourse E renovations. Sustainability is important on the International Terminal as it is on all projects at H-JAIA, and it will be certified as LEED Silver. The current recession has caused positive and negative impacts on completion of the International Terminal.
