A new method is introduced to obtain energy dissipation rates ε from in situ measured neutral density fluctations. The main idea is to fit a spectral model comprising both the inertial and the viscous subrange to the observed spectrum. This procedure significantly improves the reliability of the ε values when compared with the structure function constant method. Application of the new method to a series of measurements performed during the DYANA campaign shows low mean energy dissipation rates. -Authors
