Abstract

The paper aims to identify the challenges faced by many Indian libraries in the transitional phase of migration from traditional to web based information services. Most of the libraries in India were established before the advent of IT applications for the Libraries. The Govt. Libraries in India are having traditional means of providing services to the users and the grants are provided to maintain only the traditional services. Most of the Libraries do not have grants specifically for establishing and running web based information services. This conceptual paper aims to identify the areas that require immediate attention in order to bring users closer to their library both physically and virtually so that library services can be taken to the next higher level of satisfaction.
