Abstract

Lubricating oils are complex mixture of physical and chemical properties combined to reduce friction and wear, minimize oil degradation due to environment, combat contamination problems. The key factor in the solution of a lubrication or wear problem is to first understand the problem through investigation, and then apply that understanding to the solution. Changing the type of oil without this understanding is usually unsuccessful.
