Abstract

(Authors) Four trials were carried out in a greenhouse with rice blast susceptible cultivars and isolates of Pyricularia oryzae differing in virulence levels (IB, IG, II and IG + IB), in order to study the cross protection or induced resistance phenomenon. The results obtained showed that rice plants inoculated with less virulent P. oryzae race groups had induced resistance to more virulent groups inoculated 48 hrs later. This induction was demonstrated between race groups differing in virulence (II x IB, II x IG, IG x IB + IG and IG x IB). comment : (Eddy) the degree of induced resistance was proportional to the level of resistance each cultivar showed against the less virulent isolate used in the first inoculation.
