Abstract

The article discusses Readers Theater, an educational method that uses performance to improve reading fluency. Fluency can be improved through repetitive oral reading, an activity which may decrease student interest. In Readers Theater, students read scripts repeatedly as they rehearse to perform a part in a play, improving their reading fluency and comprehension in the process. The author notes that any book or text can be adapted for Readers Theater and comments on how the program improves student motivation and confidence.
