Abstract

Preliminary design and feasibility analysis of a 100-kW electric generation station utilizing solar energy is presented. The primary components of the system are an advanced flat-plate solar collector array and a Rankine-cycle engine which utilizes an organic fluid. Preliminary estimates for the cost of power generated by the proposed facility lies between 3. 9 and 6. 8 cent /kWhr. A marked improvement in collection efficiency can be realized by the addition of a simple reflector system which in turn would reduce the cost of power generation by 15-30 percent.
