The purpose of the article is to synthesize what we know from research about transformational school leadership (TSL) as reported in previous reviews and additional findings reported in quantitative studies (journal articles and dissertations) in the past 10 years that have not been included in previous reviews. The article highlights the origin and development of TSL, its typical practices, and its impact on school, teacher, and student outcomes. Future research using a full range of TSL practices, examining the impact of TSL on broader outcomes, and exploring its antecedents would be very helpful for theory building and leader preparation and development.
