Abstract

In the following notes each of the seven chapters corresponds approximatelyto a lecture of the course at the Polytechnique, but the presentationhas been kept descriptive to provide a connected narrative of theessence of each particular topic. There is more material in the notesthat what will be covered in the lectures, but this extra materialshould be seen as providing the context for the subject.
