Abstract

Review on the retention of briefly presented information. Data from RSVP, attentional blink, and repetition blindness is reviewed to suggest that there is a conceptual short-term memory that is distinct from "normal" STM. This claim is not too convincing, however. The data can also be explained by a rapid activation of concepts (as in the ff sweep), which by itself, is insufficient for rentention if other material follows.
