Abstract

The study of translation through corpora has given rise to a fully-fledged paradigm within the discipline of Translation Studies. Its role is significant in at least two regards: it is developing a novel and flexible methodology and is accumulating a rich variety of data on different languages and translational phenomena. Corpus-based Translation Studies draws, first of all, on the methodological and theoretical insights of corpus linguistics. It has also strong links with Descriptive Translation Studies. The aim of the present paper is to examine the relationship that exists between these two areas of study with a view to assessing their main similarities and points of departure.
