Abstract
Sadoski and Paivio have extended Dual Coding Theory (DCT) into the realms of literacy, including reading comprehension and written composition. Their DCT model, rich in explanatory power, provides an alternative to reading models based primarily on verbal processes, such as schema theory. The authors' postscript highlights several developments in DCT's application to literacy studies, such as their efforts to use DCT as a framework to unify cognitive dimensions of literacy theory.
