Abstract

Surprisingly affordable, considering its size and the expertise it contains, this volume updates the 1975 Manual 54 Sedimentation engineering, with 23 chapters that report on developments since 1975 and describe the current state of most aspects of the field. Two initial chapters provide an overview to the field, by multiple authors, and descriptions of the state of research in sediment transport and morphodynamics by the editor (U. of Illinois. Urbana- Champagne). A sampling of subsequent chapter topics includes transport of gravel and sediment mixtures, streambank erosion and river width adjustment, stream restoration, reservoir sedimentation, and contaminant processes in sediments. Six appendices are included, containing descriptions of rock scour, riprap design, sediment transport scaling for physical models, methods for estimating sediment discharge, a glossary, and conversion of units. The chapters are well-illustrated; each concludes with a bibliography.
