Abstract
Power disturbances have always been represented a major issue to electricity consumers at all levels of usage. This paper presents a new method, based on mathematical morphology, for the detection and classification of power disturbances online. The proposed morphological transform technique extracts the features of disturbances from the signals in the time domain and detects the location and duration of the disturbances. A variety of power disturbances has been simulated to evaluate the validity of the technique. The advantages of the technique are also addressed in comparison with the wavelet transform. © 2006, Sage Publications. All rights reserved.
