Abstract

A birth-death process is an example of a one-dimensional Markov chain. Markov chains are applicable far beyond queueing analysis: They have a flexibility that makes them easy to use when analyzing the performance of disparate systems. This chapter looks at examples of two multidimensional Markov chains.
